The Thailand Project is an exciting new project for 2008. If you really want to make a difference to someone’s life, are dying to imerse yourself in another culture, and are craving the opportunity to explore South East Asia, then get involved with this project! This will be the first summer that University of Leeds Students have the opportunity to travel to Thailand and spend six weeks volunteering with the charity CCD.
There are over 2000 abandoned disabled children living in government care homes in Pakkred, Bangkok. The children in these orphanages suffer from an array of disabilities both physical and mental. CCD provides help to approximately 500 of these 2000 children and young adults in a professional learning and development environment. CCD staff teach the children skills such as counting, reading and even how to feed themselves.
During these six weeks, Leeds University volunteers will help Thai staff care for and stimulate children with arts and crafts, cookery, day trips and simply spend time messing about with them. On top of the brilliant time you have working with these incredible children, weekend trips to stunning Thai islands are possible. Swimming by waterfalls, elephant trekking/bathing, rock climbing, hill tribe treks and scuba diving are only a few of the experiences you could have. Every volunteer that works on this project will want to return year after year!
