Antara is a psychiatric and general hospital providing care to all, especially the poor, in Kolkata (Calcutta), India. Friends of Antara UK is a British charity which has the dual purpose of raising money, and of directly supporting Antara through volunteers, friendship and through raising awareness in Britain of Antara’s situation.
Among the great things already accomplished is the provision of funds to enable Antaragram in Kolkata to provide free and low-cost mental healthcare to the children from an area with a population of 80 million. Money sent out by FoAUK has so far paid for several building projects at Antaragram. These include a well, two gardens, a washroom, over eighty beds and most recently a ward for mentally ill children.
You can help this year by volunteering to staff one of our card and cake stalls, organise a fundraising event, get sponsored to do pretty much anything you like, write letters to patients, or even volunteer at Antara itself during the Summer hols!
