The Bhopal project is a shiny new project which aims to raise awareness about the Bhopal disaster and raise funds for the Sambhavna clinic in India.
In 1984, there was a gas leak at a pesticides factory in Bhopal. Six badly-maintained safety systems failed, sending a cloud of lethal gas across the city. Half a million people were exposed and estimates of the number of fatalities on the night range between 5,000 and 8,000. However, the fatalities have never stopped. The factory was never cleaned and the monsoons since have washed the poisonous chemicals into nearby water wells.
The Sambhavna clinic is a modern, eco-friendly clinic which was set up by people from the U.K. and runs on donations from Europe. It provides free health care for the gas leak victims. The clinic is run according to the old ayurvedic saying ‘medicine works better when its given with love’ and it provides the most valuable source of care for the people of Bhopal.
