The Vagina Monologues is a play based on interviews with hundreds of women written by Eve Ensler. Every year, she gives up the rights to the show to allow people across the world to perform The Vagina Monologues as part of the V-Day Campaign to end violence against women. Ten percent of proceeds from the show go to V-Day’s ‘Spotlight’ Campaign (a relevant world issue such as 2007’s ‘Women in War’) and the remaining ninety percent goes to a local non-profit organisation that works to help victims of gender violence.
As well as performances of The Vagina Monologues, there are other fundraisers including a launch party, Ann Summers party and cake sales. It’s really easy to get involved and everyone is welcome, female and male! Even if you’re scared of being on stage, a little bit of your time baking cakes, selling tickets or putting up posters would be invaluable to this year’s organisers.
If anyone is interested in being involved in any way with The Vagina Monologues, whether it be acting, advertising, backstage, music etc please come along or get in touch, with Gemma or Gina.
