What’s It Like?
“A single days worth of music therapy with the girls in the government wards was a life changing experience for me. Music therapy breaks down all language barriers and stimulates even the most introverted child to express themselves. To see a smile spread across their faces even in their desperate situation was worth more than anything I can imagine.” Rosie – Thailand Project Participant (2009).

If you really want to make a difference to someone’s life, to immerse yourself in another culture, and are craving the opportunity to explore South East Asia, then look no further, this is definitely the project for you! Now in its 4th year, Leeds University students have the fantastic opportunity to travel to Thailand and spend 6 weeks volunteering in orphanages for children with disabilities with the charity CCD.
The children in the orphanages suffer from an array of disabilities both physical and mental. CCD provides help to approximately 500, of the 2000 abandoned children and young adults living there, in a professional learning and developmental environment. CCD staff teach the children skills such as counting, reading and even how to feed themselves. They also provide massage for those that suffer from physical difficulties, in hope that the children will one day be able to live independently, or thrive in an adopted family.

During these 6 weeks, Leeds University volunteers will help Thai staff care for and stimulate the children with arts and crafts, music therapy, day trips and simply spend time messing about with them. On top of the brilliant time you will have working with these incredible children, weekend trips to stunning Thai islands are possible. Swimming by waterfalls, elephant trekking/bathing, rock climbing, hill tribe treks and scuba diving are only a few of the experiences you could have. Every volunteer that works on this project wants to return year after year!
News about Intro Meetings will be announced in September/October, follow us online for all the latest!
