We take an enthusiastic group of 15-20 students who work as a team to completely bring to life an underdeveloped Ghanaian school. You’ll live, work, and play slap bang in a local village, offering you an unparalleled view of what real life is like in rural Africa.
Ghana is and has always been a special part of Africa. It dazzles you with its historic past, and charms you with it’s natural beauty. In fact for the traveller, Ghana is the unknown, unexplored, unexploited destination, which has an unbelievable array of excitingly striking attractions, succinctly distinctive and peculiar to each of the ten regions in Ghana.
Here’s some words from TEACH (Time to Educate Africa’s Children), about their work:
“We are a dynamic, frontline charity working to alleviate poverty through the power of education. Sustainability is at the heart of TEACH’s work – which is why we believe a hand-up is more effective than a hand out. We provide innovative and holistic educational programmes, which place the power to act and to change, firmly in young peoples hands. With a sound education, the core economic, social and health issues Africa faces can be challenged and overcome.
Our pathway is two-fold: While we aim to empower young Africans through our field projects, we also believe it is imperative that youth in the UK engage in the pressing global development issues of today. We promote interactive learning through participatory workshops, with the aim of developing attributes of responsible global citizens.”
What makes life on the Ghana project so unique is that this is a trip truly tailored for any and every student. If your’e the new Picasso then splashing some life onto an old nursery may take your fancy, or if you’re a ‘Charlie Dimmock kind of gal’, you can score some lad points by doing anything from bricklaying to installing water harvesting equipment. Equally, if you’re a football fanatic you can put your practical efforts into constructing a permanent football ground for the children – meaning you’ll be making a difference long after you’ve gone – and other interests such as music, photography, and film making will provide a rich holistic learning for the community.
