What’s It Like?
“Completing the 3 Peaks Challenge was one of the proudest moments of my university life. When back in Leeds the prospect of travelling from Leeds to Wales via Scotland and the Peak District whilst climbing 3 mountains all in 24 hours seemed impossible, but we did it!
Climbing Scarfell Pike at 4am and running down Snowdon all to try and complete the challenge in as quick a time as possible is something I will always remember and be proud of”. Nick Todd (participant 2010.
More Info
The famous 3 Peak Challenge, one of RAG’s most popular events, gives you the chance to conquer the three biggest mountains in Britain: Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon…all in 24 hours!
The National 3 Peak Challenge has been a popular test of mental and physical strength throughout the hiking community for over 40 years. Participants attempt to climb Ben Nevis in Western Scotland (4,409 ft), Scafell Pike in the Lake District (3,209 ft) and Snowdon in North Wales (3,560 ft), a total of 11,178 ft and 415 miles of driving all within 24 hours.
Our first attempt at the challenge was in May 2010 and was a great success! Our volunteers surprised their friends, families and even themselves when almost all of the 42 participants successfully completed the challenge in under 24 hours. This is an achievement that with a bit of hard work and dedication anyone can do and should be considered by anyone who wants to do something they thought was impossible.
